CORNEA
With the increasing use of computers, mobile phones and modern lifestyle, dry eyes are becoming very common and are often a source of nuisance to the patient.
Dry eye syndrome is caused by a chronic lack of sufficient lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye. Its consequences range from constant irritation to inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva.
Following precautions should be taken to avoid dry eyes:
1) Follow the 20:20:20 rule (look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes).
2) Blink often while using computers and mobile phones.
3) Use eye lubricants or artificial tears at least twice a day if both of the above do not work in practice.
4) It is mandatory to see an ophthalmologist every six months for preliminary tests.
5) Find ways to reduce glare from the computer screen like changing screen angles, adjusting room lighting etc.
6) Healthy diet: Consuming a diet rich in Vitamin A and C is very good for good optical health. Fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants like papaya, carrot, broccoli, spinach, and eggs should be included.
